Frequently asked questions
How much interest will I get on ₹30 lakh in SCSS?
₹61,500 every quarter at 8.2%, which is about ₹20,500 a month or ₹2,46,000 a year. Over 5 years that is ₹12,30,000, and your ₹30 L comes back at the end.
How is SCSS interest calculated?
Quarterly interest = deposit × rate ÷ 4. For ₹15,00,000 at 8.2%: ₹15,00,000 × 8.2% ÷ 4 = ₹30,750. It is simple interest, paid out every quarter, so it does not compound.
What is the SCSS monthly income on ₹15 lakh?
About ₹10,250 a month. SCSS pays every quarter, so you actually get ₹30,750 four times a year.
What is the SCSS interest rate now?
8.2% a year for October–December 2026. The rate on the day you deposit stays fixed for the 5 years.
Will TDS be cut on my SCSS interest?
Only if your SCSS interest is more than ₹1,00,000 in a year. Then 10% is cut, unless you give Form 121 because your total tax is nil. On ₹15,00,000, interest is ₹1,23,000, so ₹12,300 TDS is cut.
How much more do I get with the 3-year extension?
Another ₹3,69,000 on ₹15,00,000 at today's rate, paid quarterly. The extension earns the rate in force when the account matures.
