PM Internship Scheme status in November 2026: is it open?
Yes. Round 3 of the pilot is open, on a rolling basis. Companies keep posting openings on the official portal, and you can apply while an opening is live. It is still a pilot. As of 3 November 2026, the government had not announced the full five-year scheme.
The scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024-25 and launched as a pilot on 3 October 2024. The first two rounds had 12-month internships with ₹5,000 a month. From 12 March 2026, the rules were changed for Round 3: a wider age band, more money each month and shorter internships. On 22 April 2026, final-year students were added. The Union Budget 2026-27 set aside ₹4,788.45 crore for the scheme.
| Round | When | Main rules |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | Applications from 12 October 2024 | 12 months, ₹5,000 a month, age 21 to 24 |
| Round 2 | Opened in February 2025; last date extended to 31 March 2025 | 12 months, ₹5,000 a month, age 21 to 24 |
| Round 3 | April 2026 onwards, on a rolling basis | 6 or 9 months, at least ₹9,000 a month, age 18 to 25 |
Watch for the next round: new openings, dates and rule changes appear first on pminternship.mca.gov.in and in Ministry of Corporate Affairs press releases on pib.gov.in.
What is the PM Internship Scheme?
The PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a Government of India scheme for young people who have finished school or college but do not have a full-time job. It places them as interns in large companies. An intern learns on the job in a real workplace and gets a fixed amount of money every month.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) runs the scheme through one online portal, pminternship.mca.gov.in. Companies post openings there. Candidates register, apply, get shortlisted, and accept offers on the same portal. The money is paid straight into the intern's Aadhaar-linked bank account.

- Step 2Get an internship6 or 9 months in a large company.
- Step 3Get paidAt least ₹9,000 a month, plus ₹6,000 once.
Example: Priya, 22, a BCom graduate in Pune. Priya is not working and not studying. She applies on the portal and gets a 9-month internship with a finance company in Pune. She gets ₹9,000 every month she attends, and a ₹6,000 grant after she joins.

| Who pays | Each month | Over 6 months | Over 9 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Government, by DBT (90%) | ₹8,100 | ₹48,600 | ₹72,900 |

| One-time grant, by the government | ₹6,000 | ₹6,000 | |
| Total | ₹9,000 | ₹60,000 | ₹87,000 |
- DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) means the government sends the money straight to your bank account. The account must be linked (seeded) with your Aadhaar.
- The company's share depends on your attendance and conduct.
- ₹9,000 is the minimum. A company may choose to pay more than this.
- The ₹6,000 grant is paid once, after you join. It also comes by DBT.
Total money over the whole internship, old rules and new rules:

PM Internship selection process
You do not sit an entrance exam for the scheme itself. The portal and the company do the selection:
- The shortlist looks at your choices and the company's needs. It aims for diversity and gives priority to SC, ST and OBC candidates and persons with disabilities.
- The company decides whom to select. It may hold a test or an interview.
- You see the offer on your portal dashboard and accept it there.
PM Internship last date and how to check openings
Round 3 does not have one last date for everyone. Openings are posted and filled on a rolling basis, so an opening can close when its seats are filled. To see what is open today, log in to pminternship.mca.gov.in and search by your state and district.
Dates you may see on other websites are often from Round 1 or Round 2. Round 2's last date, for example, was extended to 31 March 2025. Rely only on the dates shown on the portal.
PM Internship companies list
Partner companies were chosen mainly by their average CSR (corporate social responsibility) spending over the last 3 years. Other companies, banks and financial institutions can join with the approval of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. A company may also place interns with its group companies or its suppliers and customers.
The official list of partner companies, and the live openings by sector, state and district, are on pminternship.mca.gov.in. The list changes as companies join, so we do not copy it here.
PM Internship insurance: PMJJBY and PMSBY cover
Under the scheme guidelines, every intern is covered by two government insurance schemes. The government pays the premium, so the intern pays nothing.
| Scheme | What it covers | Cover | Normal yearly premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| PMJJBY | Death from any cause | ₹2,00,000 | ₹436 |
| PMSBY | Death or disability from an accident | ₹2,00,000 | ₹20 |
Read how each one works on the PMJJBY life insurance page and the PMSBY accident insurance page. A company may also give extra accident cover of its own.

| Length | 12 months | 6 or 9 months |

A second example: a 6-month internship
Example: Arjun, 19, an ITI electrician from Nagpur. Arjun finished his ITI course and is looking for work. He gets a 6-month internship with a power company. The government pays ₹8,100 and the company ₹900 each month, plus the ₹6,000 grant.
- From the government
- ₹54,600
- From the company
- ₹5,400
- Total
- ₹60,000
Under the old rules Arjun, at 19, could not have applied, because the age band started at 21.
A note for parents: the scheme pays the intern, not the family. The money goes only to the intern's own Aadhaar-linked bank account. Nobody can charge a fee for selection.
